THREE YOUTH SELECTED AS TENNESSEE CATTLEMEN’S ASSOCIATION YOUTH AMBASSADOR
Murfreesboro, TN—The Tennessee Cattlemen’s Association (TCA) recently selected Jana Owen, Katie Whitted, and Sorrell Martin as its 2019 Youth Ambassadors.
Owen is the 17-year-old daughter of Dan and Charlotte Owen of Lincoln County. She is the fourth-generation to live and work on her family's cattle operation where they operate a registered Shorthorn cow-calf operation. Owen is involved in 4-H and FFA at Lincoln County High School where she is a junior. She has been a member of several successful livestock, dairy, poultry and meat judging teams.
Whitted is the 17-year-old daughter of Chris and Marie Whitted of Meigs County, Tennessee. She and her family own and operate a registered Angus cattle operation, Miller Family Farms. Whitted is a junior at Meigs County High School where she is actively involved in 4-H and FFA, the golf team, and a host of other organizations. She is also highly involved in the Tennessee Junior Angus Association.
Martin is the 17-year-old daughter of Jeanie Garrell of Marshall County. Martin has deep roots in the cattle industry and raising Hereford cattle alongside her mother, and three sisters. In addition to raising and showing Hereford cattle, she is highly involved in 4-H and cross country at Cornersville High School, and a devoted advocate for the agriculture industry.
Melinda Perkins, Director of Youth Programs and Outreach, is eager to work with the Youth Ambassadors this year. “I am excited to work with the girls we have selected as Youth Ambassadors this year. Their time in 4-H and FFA, junior breed associations, and other school activities has undoubtedly equipped them to serve our youth members. I look forward to seeing the new and creative ideas they present.”
The purpose of the TCA Youth Ambassadors is to promote the well-being of the cattle industry, to further encourage youth involvement and cooperation in the cattle industry. 2020 TCA Youth Ambassador applications will be available in Fall 2019.
