With the passing of Rheba Capps in May of this year, the position of Office Manager was filled by Jessica Young on July 15. In addition to being the Office Manager, Jessica will also fill the new role of Industry Outreach Coordinator.
Although her passions are rooted in Tennessee agriculture, Jessica is originally from Peachtree City, Georgia—a small town just southwest of Atlanta. Her desire to pursue a career within agriculture brought her to Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU).
“True Blue” thru and thru, Jessica held leadership roles within the MTSU Block & Bridle Club, the MTSU Equestrian Team, the MTSU Dairy Show Team, and the MTSU Agriculture Ambassadors. She also competed on the MTSU Academic Animal Science Quadrathalon Team, the MTSU Stock Horse Team, as well as the MTSU Dairy Challenge Team.
Jessica’s love of dairy cattle led her to become the student farm manager for the MTSU Dairy Farm—where she milked, assisted with operations, cow and calf care, and helped educate other students, and those in her community about the dairy industry. During her time at the dairy, she also aided in the operations of the MTSU Beef and Swine units, and gained experience in the feed industry while working at Lascassas Feed Supply.
Jessica had the opportunity to intern for the Tennessee Farm Bureau Federation in 2018, and represent Farm Credit Mid-America as a college scholar in 2018 and 2019.
In 2019, Jessica graduated with a bachelor's in animal science. She then went on to earn her master’s degree in agricultural education leadership as a graduate teaching assistant for Dr. Alanna Vaught and Dr. Jessica Carter in 2020.
She currently resides in Milton, Tennessee with her husband, Chad Young. Outside of their professional lives, the active couple assists with the Young family’s commercial cow-calf and hay operation. In the future, Jessica hopes to purchase and breed registered stock. She also enjoys ranch riding, working cow horses and reining—actively competing at local stock horse shows.
Jessica is actively involved within the agriculture industry of Middle Tennessee. She currently serves on the Tennessee Stock Horse Association Board of Directors, is the chairman of the Rutherford County Young Farmers and Ranchers, and is also a member of the Tennessee Farm Bureau Federation’s ACE Team. Jessica is honored to be a part of the TCA team, and is excited to serve our state’s cattlemen and industry.
You can reach Jessica at info@tncattle.org or by calling the office: 615-896-2333.
