TCA Youth Award Applications Now Available
The Tennessee Cattlemen’s Association (TCA) and the Tennessee Cattlemen’s Youth Association (TCYA) are now accepting applications for several youth opportunities and awards. Applications for the Farm Credit Mid America/ TCA Youth Beef Heifer Initiative Scholarship, TCA Outstanding Youth Award, and TCYA Youth Ambassadors are available online at, www.tncattle.org/youth. Applications will be accepted until December 1, 2019.
Youth Beef Heifer Initiative Scholarship— For the ninth year, Farm Credit Mid America and the Tennessee Cattlemen’s Association are teaming up to offer the Youth Beef Heifer Initiative Scholarships. Six deserving youth will be awarded either $2,000 or $1,000 to purchase a heifer of their choice, for a total of $9,000. A first and second place winner will be chosen in the following three categories: junior (4th and 5th grades), junior high (6th, 7th, and 8th grades), and senior high (9th, 10th, and 11th grades). TCA Outstanding Youth Award—The Outstanding Youth Award competition is designed to recognize a junior (ages 12-16) and senior (ages 17-21) member of Tennessee Cattlemen’s Youth Association (TCYA) for their involvement in the cattle and agriculture industries, leadership, and community service. Participants will be judged based on the magnitude of their involvement and accomplishments in the cattle industry and agriculture, leadership involvement and participation in cattle/agriculture related groups, and participation in their communities.Both winners will receive a trophy belt buckle sponsored by Oakdale Farms. The junior award winner will receive $100 cash and the senior award winner will receive a $1,000 educational scholarship. Applications are available at, www.tncattle.org/outstanding-youth-award.
Tennessee Cattlemen’s Youth Association Ambassadors—The purpose of the TCYA Ambassadors is to promote the well-being of the cattle industry, to further encourage youth involvement and cooperation in the cattle industry. TCYA Ambassadors are involved and assist with a host of things including the annual TCA Convention and Trade Show, Tennessee Ag Day on the Hill, and fun events at State Beef Expo, just to name a few. Applicants should be willing to serve a one-year term, must be a paid member of the Youth Association, and should be at least 16 years of age as of January 1, 2020. Applicants will be notified in mid-December if they were selected. The Youth Beef Heifer Initiative Scholarship and TCA Outstanding Youth Award will be presented on Friday, January 10, 2020 during the Youth Banquet at the annual TCA Convention and Trade Show. The TCYA Ambassadors will also begin their term during the annual Convention and Trade Show, January 10 and 11, 2020.
