Second Harvest Initiative
Supporting youth in agriculture while feeding needy people across middle Tennessee
The Tennessee Cattlemen’s Association and industry partners have donated beef to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee through this unique program.
We have used sponsor funds to purchase the prize-winning steers during the Tennessee Junior Beef Expo in Murfreesboro. Then, those steers are processed and their beef is donated to the Second Harvest Food Bank.
Not only are we supporting the future of the beef industry in Tennessee by purchasing these steers at a premium, but we are also helping provide nutrient-rich protein to needy families in Tennessee.
In 2019, we were able to purchase the top five steers and donate more than 3,000 pounds of beef to Second Harvest.
Why We Do This
The reasons we give back are endless, but here are just a few:
-
To provide nutrient-rich protein to needy families in Tennessee
-
To reward the youth that participates in Beef Expo
-
To encourage future participation in the Expo
-
To support the future of our beef industry
